The Portland FolkMusic Society presents the finest in folk, acoustic, and World music with its concert series.
Unless otherwise noted, concerts are held on Third Fridays at Carvlin Hall, at 1636 SE Hickory, Portland Oregon,
just north of SE 17th and Division, on the south side of the Ladd’s Addition neighborhood.
Carvlin Hall is a classic small concert hall, seating 250.
All concerts are air-conditioned, smoke free, handicapped
accessible (no stairs). There is ample free parking (enter from 16th Ave)
or you can take TriMet.
Doors open at 6:45 PM, shows begin at 7:30 PM with a 60 minute set, a 25 minute intermission with refreshments and a chance to meet the performers and purchase their recordings, and then the evening ends with another one hour set. Audiences are attentive and enthusiastic, and sing along at any opportunity (even with didgeridoo!). No food or beverages are allowed upstairs in the performance hall, so audiences focus exclusively on the music. Performers really enjoy playing for our crowds.
Performers are generally from the Portland area and Pacific Northwest, although we have also featured many nationally known artists, including Bill Staines, Rosalie Sorrels, Claudia Schmidt, Chuck Pyle, Lee Murdock, Kate MacLeod, Joe Jencks, Michael Fracasso, and Michael Johnathon. Featured regional performers have included Misty River Band, Linda Waterfall, Tom Rawson, Heidi Muller, Tracy Spring, Tom May, David Rea, and Portlanders Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Kate Power and Steve Einhorn, Three Leg Torso, Samusson and Tomassi, Anne Weiss, Doug Smith, Foghorn String Band, the Dickel Bothers, Little Sue, Jack Straw, Flat Mountain Girls and didgeridoo virtuoso Michael Stirling.
Light refreshments are available for a nominal fee during intermission. See this year’s schedule for a list of concerts and admission prices.
