Special Bonus Movie Event July 29
Black Music Special

Just scheduled, on July 29 we will have a special showing of 12 great black artists, each performing one song each. You can see the preview on the right.

These are the same videos as the ones on the home page of this site - but even if you have seen them before, you will feel the power and the beauty of this music, when you watch them all the way through, with a group of people.

Room opens 6:30, screening at 7:00 PM (PST). If you are already registered for the series, you're cool. If you haven't registered yet, just click below. It's very quick and easy.

July Film Festival
... of folk music cinema

PFS is delighted to invite you to its July Film Festival, three superb movies specially selected to bring you the best of the music you love.

When is this happening?

The movies will be on three consecutive Wednesday evenings, starting on July 8. We'll open the online theater at 6:30 so people can chat and fiddle with their computers. The movies will start at 7 PM sharp. No one will be admitted after 7:15, so don't be late! (All times are Pacific time).

How does it work?

We'll show them on Zoom. If you are a Zoom veteran, then you'll have no trouble. If this is your first time, then plan to come early to make sure your computer is set up. During the movie, everyone will be muted, but the chat column will be open so you can comment on the movie or ask questions. When the movie finishes, we'll unmute everyone so you can discuss the film, and we'll also have a couple of anonymous polls for you.

Wow! What are the movies?

We have three great flics. We start with a Hollywood hit, O Brother, Where Art Thou? on July 8. Then on July 15, we have a classic documentary, Hazel Dickens: It's Hard to tell the Singer from the Song. We close with Latcho Drom, a documentary that shows the extraordinary sweep of Romani (Gypsy) music, from India to Spain. Jonathan Romney of The Guardian wrote "there is something particularly exciting about a film that doesn't simply offer a burst of cultural difference, but actually creates a picture of the world as you've never seen it before. Such a film is Latcho Drom". Don't miss this one!

Sounds great! How do I actually get to see these movies?

We're asking everyone to register to reserve a place. When you register, you'll receive the link to the movies. You only need to register once: it's the same link to watch all three movies.

You mean... It's over?!?

Yes, these three movies are all there is of the July Film Festival. But watch this space... There just might be an August Film Festival!
