About this event

The first class of the new season and the slow session of Tune Explorers will begin Saturday, Sept 14, from 1-3 pm at Waverly Church, 3300 SE Woodward, in Portland’s central east side. We’ll meet in Hyde Hall.

Suggested donation is $15, cash or Venmo.

We are introducing a new method this year. We will teach everything by ear. For the most part, our tune source will be the tune resources of the international Irish cultural association, Comhaltus Ceoltiori Eirenn (CCE). They have 3 big tune books arranged in sets, and they have a YouTube for every tune in those books. This is great, because YouTube gives you the ability to slow down the tune for easier learning.

We will also be “teaching” tunes that have been taught before, as a matter of review. We figure it’ll be easier for you if the tune is a little familiar.

You are asked to bring a recording device, your instrument, and that’s it (besides hydration and attire). No dots, no iPads with sheet music.
